In 2001 we started construction on a 12,000 sq ft full custom home on the beach bluff in Redondo Beach. We hired a well- known General Contractor as well as a local architect to start working on the project. The original estimation for completion of the project was approximately 2 years. During the first year of construction, the home next to us was put up for sale, and we purchased it to use as a guesthouse. We joined the two properties, so in total the project consisted of approximately 18,000 sq ft of living space as well as just less than 2 acres of land.

It became clear to us after 2 years into the project (and not even half way complete) that the construction of our home was being mismanaged. There were many architectural as well as construction issues that were very complex and not being solved properly, and the project was grossly over budget. We made the decision to fire the existing General Contractor and look for a new option.

After much due diligence, we decided to hire the J. Alexander Company to complete the construction of our home. John Schoenfeld jumped into the middle of a very large mess and started methodically getting the project back on track. John is a problem solver. He and his staff did a great job of helping us understand our options, as all of the issues were uncovered, and came up with creative solutions to many of the issues.

After a miserable first 2 years of construction and endless delays and excuses, we were very relieved to have a competent, very talented General Contractor and team working on the completion of our home.

John Schoenfeld and his staff are a full service group. We continue to use them for maintenance on our property. They have a broad range of talents and have shown that they can handle all aspects of residential construction from initial design to ongoing maintenance and modifications.

We have the remodel of our dreams, and doubt that it would have happened so seamlessly with any other contractor. Within a few days of being asked to bid on the job, John had subcontractors here for estimates, and had a complete bid ready for us before anyone else had done more than contact us.
